BNP and Jamaat Blocking Institutional Reforms, Says NCP

Sarowar Tushar, a senior leader of the National Citizen Party (NCP), has accused BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami of being directly responsible for the failure to reform key state institutions.

Speaking on Monday, November 10, at a discussion event in Banglamotor, Dhaka, titled “Political Marginalization of the Working Class in the July Charter,” organized by Jatiya Sramik Shakti, Tushar delivered a scathing critique of the two parties.

“Jamaat is busy lecturing on morality, while BNP keeps talking about street movements. Neither party values anything beyond their own political interests,” he said.

He added that both parties are now “engaged in immoral politics to attract the Awami League’s boat voters.”

“Instead of trusting the people, they are relying on top criminals to retain influence,” Tushar alleged.

‘BNP Claims People Don’t Understand Referendums’

Addressing the BNP’s shifting stance on the July Charter, Sarowar Tushar accused the party of hypocrisy.

“BNP initially agreed with the Consensus Commission on the July Charter and referendum process, but now they are rejecting it. They claim people don’t understand referendums — yet their very birth as a political party came through a referendum,” he remarked.

Tushar said this attitude proves that BNP only cares about its political survival, not the democratic will of the people.

‘No Fair Election Possible Without July Charter Implementation’

The NCP leader reiterated that no election can be free or fair without the legal implementation of the July Charter.

“Without implementing the Charter, no environment for a credible election can exist,” he said.

Citing internal reports, Tushar mentioned that 67% of polling centers are now considered vulnerable.

“When people feel unsafe, how can we talk about free and fair elections?” he questioned.

Reform Is the Only Path to Restore Public Trust

According to Tushar, institutional reform is the only way to restore political stability and rebuild public confidence.

He urged BNP and Jamaat to abandon power-centric politics and focus on people-centric reform.

“You cannot build a new Bangladesh without reform. Leave behind the politics of power and embrace the politics of the people,” he said.

Conclusion

Sarowar Tushar’s comments have reignited debate over the July Charter and the reform agenda that has divided political parties in Bangladesh.

His remarks make the NCP’s position clear — the party envisions a reform-driven, accountable political future, while accusing BNP and Jamaat of clinging to the old politics of opportunism and self-interest.

Analysts say statements like these are helping position the NCP as a pro-reform, alternative political force seeking to represent public trust and democratic renewal.
